Over 50 Years of Timeless Color, Mesmerizing Motion, and Design Legacy
The Aurora clock has been in continuous production for over five decades. Recognized and honored by institutions like the Museum of Modern Art, this piece of kinetic art has become a design icon. Today, we continue the tradition with our own limited edition Aurora, built to honor the elegance and wonder of the original—rightfully so.
What Makes the Aurora So Special?
The Aurora isn’t just a clock—it’s an experience.
With its beautiful sculpted case, ever-changing colors, and play of polarized light, it turns timekeeping into something magical. As the colored filter discs rotate, they overlap in surprising ways, creating shifts in hue and intensity. Walk past it, and the colors shift with your angle. Look closely, and you’ll see a rotating second-hand disc working like a moving lens into an entirely new spectrum.
But perhaps what makes the Aurora truly special is the connection people have to it.
Many customers tell us their Aurora clock was a wedding gift, a family heirloom, or something they remember from childhood. Others have held onto theirs for decades—still running, still mesmerizing. These clocks are cherished not just for their artistry, but for the memories and meaning they carry. They’re part of family stories, of homes, of daily rituals. That kind of emotional value is rare—and it’s why we treat every Aurora with the respect it deserves.
This isn’t just a beautiful object. It’s a legacy.
Built with Craftsmanship & Modern Updates
We’ve honored the spirit of the original Aurora with thoughtful upgrades:
- A highly polished aluminum case, lathed and hand-finished just like in the 1970s.
- A metal-geared motor sourced from the same trusted supplier as the originals.
- A variable-spectrum LED board, replacing the hot-running bulb for cooler performance, broader color range, and increased longevity. The LEDs subtly shift between red, blue, green, and white, with momentary fade-outs to let secondary and pastel tones shine. This allows a fuller, more natural color experience—soft yet vivid.
- A brightness adjustment switch, lets you fine-tune the glow for a bedroom or workspace.
- 20+ year lifespan LEDs that slowly dim over decades instead of burning out.
Each clock we build is a seamless blend of retro beauty and modern engineering—a worthy continuation of the Aurora’s legacy.
Other Updates/Additions:
Rear Covers & Transparency – The original polished chrome rear covers are no longer available. New Auroras now come with a plain, functional rear cover that effectively blocks LED light leakage. While not chrome, these covers are hidden from view and maintain the clock’s performance and durability.
